Of course,
it is only too easy and natural that we should assume that what is valued and
important and “right” for us is the same for other cultures. These “cultural
assumptions” are easy to make: for instance, we can assume that black is the
colour of mourning everywhere in the world, but in India and Japan it’s
white. Or we can assume that brides traditionally wear white, but Indian
women marry in red. For us, a dragon carries the idea of “danger”, but in
China dragons bring good fortune.
