I would
now like to discuss exactly what happens when you carry out a communicative
activity, and how learning strategies can play a vital role in it. Consider
for example what is involved in carrying out a communicative activity like
"Can recognise significant points in straightforward newspaper articles
on familiar subjects", a descriptor for one of the reading activities at
B1 level. (Many teachers would label the "skill" involved in this
activity as skimming, or reading for gist or main points.)
