There’s
one final point I’d like to make. It is extremely important to link the
improvements learners make to the conscious use of learning strategies. Why?
Because if you use a strategy and as a result improve your performance, you
haven’t just achieved a result in terms of linguistic or communicative
competence – you’ve also, and perhaps more importantly, improved your
learning process - your perception of personal competence, your sense of
self-efficacy and self-esteem – in other words, your expectations of
success.
