But is this enough? Maybe not. If we want to be able to turn knowledge into strategies we also need to be convinced that it is possible to guess the meaning of words – we need to be ready to admit that reading does not mean passively waiting for the text to reveal itself – but rather, that the reader can and must do its part. In other words, we need to be convinced that meanings can be explored through making and testing hypotheses – and we need to be ready to do this.
