In most cases, we know that English is the first foreign language learnt at school, and will be more and more so in the future. So English has a special role and status as a sort of bridge language towards the learning of further languages. How can we teach English in a way that promotes, for example, French, German or Spanish as our students’ second or even third foreign language?
